Seaside Rescue

Our Summer 2014 topic will see the children learning all about the history of seaside rescue, the evolution of the RNLI and the heroic rescue of the survivors of the Forfarshire by Grace Darling.

During the course of the term each class learnt about how lifeboats developed into the modern day boats that we had the chance to see at the RNLI station in Seahouses. Everyone, also found out about the bravery and heroism of Grace Darling in the amazing rescue of the nine survivors of the Forfarshire, 175 years ago. Visiting the Grace Darling museum in Bamburgh, enabled children to look at real artefacts and role play the rescue.

To conclude the topic, a Water Fun afternoon was organised by the children in order to raise funds for the RNLI. Needless to say everyone, staff included had a wet but enjoyable afternoon. A fantastic sum of 175 was raised.
