Lanercost Church of England School Council

At Lanercost C of E School, we believe in the importance of a strong school community where children, staff, governors and families work together. Our School Council gives children a valued voice and plays an important role in shaping school life.

Following a democratic vote, the School Council includes a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and a representative from each year group. Members meet regularly with the Headteacher and staff to share ideas and support positive change across the school.

Through the School Council, children develop:

• An understanding of democracy through voting, discussion and shared decision making

• Respect for different viewpoints and the importance of listening to others

• A sense of responsibility and contribution to the school community

• Confidence in expressing ideas and representing others

• Awareness of fairness and inclusion

The School Council also leads fundraising activities and gathers the views of children throughout the year, ensuring that everyone feels involved and heard.
