SEND and Inclusion at Lanercost
SEND and Inclusion
At Lanercost C of E Primary School, we are proud to be an inclusive school where every child is known, valued and supported to flourish. Through our thoughtful and comprehensive approach to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), we provide a secure, caring and happy environment in which all children can experience success, confidence and enjoyment in learning.
We are committed to meeting the individual needs of every child and ensuring full inclusion in all aspects of school life and the wider community. We believe in equal opportunities for all and work hard to ensure that every child is treated with respect, dignity and fairness. We value the views of our children and their families and actively involve them in decisions about learning, support and school life.
At Lanercost Church of England Primary School we provide interventions to support the Four Broad Areas of Need.
Communication and Interaction (C&I)
Cognition and Learning (C&L)
Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)
Sensory and/or Physical Needs (SPN)
Support we offer:
We have a highly trained team of Teaching Assistants who are able to facilitate interventions to support children across all classes. We have staff trained specifically in Speech, Language and Communication Needs, an Emotional Language Support Assistant to provide sessions focusing on Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs. Our Teaching Assistants also run Phonics interventions, Pre-Teach maths sessions and Reading Comprehension booster sessions.
We pride ourselves on working alongside external agencies to ensure our children are getting targeted support to ensure they reach their potential and barriers to learning are removed.

SENDCo
Our SENDCo and support team
Our SENDCo works closely with class teachers, support staff and families to coordinate provision across the school. Together, we ensure that children receive the right support at the right time.
This is strengthened by our pastoral care and experienced support staff, who work with children to support both learning and wellbeing, helping every child to grow in confidence and independence.
We believe that strong relationships with families are key to children’s success. We communicate regularly, listen carefully to concerns and celebrate progress together. Parents and carers are always welcome to discuss their child’s needs with the class teacher or SENDCo.
If you have a concern about your child, we encourage you to speak to their class teacher in the first instance. Further support can then be arranged through the SENDCo if needed.
