Sport at Lanercost
At Lanercost C of E Primary School, we believe that physical activity plays a vital role in children’s development. Sport, movement and outdoor learning are an important part of daily school life and support children’s physical health, confidence and wellbeing.
We know that being active helps children concentrate, supports their emotional health and builds habits that can last a lifetime. Our aim is to ensure that every child experiences success in sport and develops a positive attitude towards physical activity.
What the Sports Premium Funding Is For
The Primary PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding provided to primary schools to improve the quality of physical education, sport and physical activity. It is ring fenced funding, which means it can only be used to improve PE and sport provision and to create sustainable improvements for children.
You can read more about this funding on the government website here: Primary PE and Sport Premium guidance.

How We Use the Funding at Lanercost
We use our Sports Premium funding to ensure children have access to a wide range of sporting experiences. All children receive at least two hours of PE each week, alongside opportunities for active learning across the curriculum.
The funding helps us provide specialist coaching, broaden the range of sports on offer, support staff training and enable children to take part in competitions and festivals. We aim to ensure that every child has the chance to try new activities, develop skills and feel proud of their achievements.
Supporting Wellbeing and Confidence Through Sport
Sport at Lanercost is about more than competition. It supports teamwork, resilience, confidence and cooperation. Physical activity also plays an important role in supporting children’s emotional wellbeing and helping them develop healthy habits.
By encouraging children to be active, we help them build confidence, improve their focus in lessons and develop positive relationships with others.

Sustaining Improvement and Looking Ahead
We review our Sports Premium spending each year to ensure it continues to benefit children and improve provision over time. Our focus is always on creating lasting improvements so that high quality PE and sport remain a strong part of school life.
You can view our current Sports Premium strategy and impact report on this page, which shows how funding is used and how it supports children’s participation and development.
